This 15 Day Uganda Gorilla & Chimp Safari takes you to the Murchison Falls National Park for wildlife viewing through game drives and boat launches and to Kibale Forest National Park, the primate capital of the world, for a chimpanzee tracking and to see various species of monkeys and birds.

During this 15 Day Uganda Gorilla & Chimp Safari, you will have a walk in the Bigodi swamp renowned for rare bird species, you will visit Queen Elizabeth National Park for more wildlife viewing through game drives and boat launches, and Gorilla trekking in Bwindi Impenetrable forest.

You will relax at Lake Bunyonyi and also have a guided walk safari in Lake Mburo National Park before you return to Kampala.

 

Detailed 15 Day Uganda Gorilla & Chimp Safari

DAY 1: Drive to Murchison Falls National Park

After your breakfast, you will be picked up at exactly 7:00 am by our guide and drive through the famous Luwero Triangle. This journey takes 6-7 hours.

You visit and track white rhinos at Ziwa rhino sanctuary. This sanctuary has now been established to breed black and white rhinos, and restore rhino populations in Uganda’s protected areas at a later stage.

The drive will take 1 and half hours. Continue driving and get to Masindi town for a lunch break. Then proceed to Murchison Falls.

DAY 2: Early Game Drive and Launch Cruise on the Nile

After breakfast head to the delta in search of birdlife and enjoy the game drive to look for lions, giraffes, herds of elephants, buffaloes, and many more. Set out for an afternoon boat cruise along the Nile to the bottom of Murchison Falls.

The river banks are lined with a variety of game and colorful birds. Expect to sight a lot of hippos cooling off in the water, buffalos, and elephants drinking from the Nile, warthogs, waterbucks, kobs, and other animals eating fresh grass along the banks and drinking from the Nile.

If lucky you may see the rare and prehistoric-looking shoebills, which is a cross between the dodo and a dinosaur during this 15 Day Uganda Gorilla & Chimp Safari. The Lunch ride lasts about 3 hours.

DAY 3: Murchison Falls National Park –Hoima

Morning at leisure at the lodge. In the afternoon, you will proceed to Hoima, traveling on both asphalt and unpaved roads, you pass through traditional Ugandan Villages where you see people at work tending their traditional crops of millet, sorghum, beans, and maize.

The lush rolling of this region provides good “photo opportunities” in Hoima you will visit the Karuzika palace the official residence of the king of Bunyoro and get to know the origin of the Bunyoro kingdom.

Visit mparo tombs which are a royal burial ground for the kings of bunyoro kingdom. Dinner and overnight will at your lodge of booking.

DAY 4: Drive to Kibale National Park, Visit Craters

After breakfast, we will transfer to fort portal town. We shall have several stopovers for sightseeing and also take photos of tea plantations.

Lunch at the hotel and we shall have a brief visit to the Amabere Ga nyina Mwiiru caves and you will visit crater lakes.

You arrive at Fort Portal, then continue towards Kibale forest, one of the great African rainforest research reserves.

This forest is famed for the variety of primates found here and it is a terrific area for birds. Dinner and overnight will be at your lodge of booking.

DAY 5: Chimpanzee plus Other Primates

After Breakfast, you will go for chimpanzee and 10 other primates including phoestes, red colobus, blues, and red-tailed and grey-cheeked Mangabey.

DAY 6: Queen Elizabeth National Park, Viewing Rwenzori, Lots of Crater Lakes, And Wild Animals

Breakfast and then drive to Queen Elizabeth. The game seen will depend on the season: the Kasenyi plains are good for lions and the Mweya peninsula for a variety of animals.

Shift to Queen Elizabeth National park this morning (about 3 hours driving) leaving through fort portal town. You turn south and early this afternoon enter Queen Elizabeth national park, which is dominated on its northern border by the snow-capped 16000-foot Rwenzori mountains-the famed “mountains of the moon”.

This 767-square-mile conservation area is bordered on the northeast by Lake George and on the southwest by Lake Edward: its western border adjoins the Zaire Parc du Virunga.

You will expect to see teeming herds of impala-like Uganda kob as well as topi, elephant and lion, giant forest hog, and Cape buffalo. There are also several soda lakes filling ancient volcanic calderas where flamingos reside seasonally.

In the afternoon enjoy a game drive in the northern part of the park, visiting the baboon cliff famous for its nice scenery and good views of the shadows of the mountains of the moon-the Rwenzori. Dinner and overnight will be at your lodge of booking.

DAY 7: Game Drive to See Lions, Leopards, Elephant, Buffalo Etc

We set out early in the morning for a game drive in the northern part of the park on the Kasenyi, track in search of lions, elephants, and solitary buffaloes.

This is the best time for opportunities of viewing the cats in action owing to the vast population of Uganda kobs. We have an excellent chance to view just about every animal here at very close range.

Return to the lodge for your breakfast, before heading out for a launch trip along the Kazinga channel. This gives you the opportunity to view wildlife up close: hippos huff and sprays at a mere foot away from the boat, buffalo linger in the shallows.

The shores of the channel are also home to an array of birds including pink-backed pelicans, pied and malachite kingfishers, saddle-billed stork, and many others. Dinner and overnight will be at your lodge of booking.

DAY 8: Drive to Bwindi via Ishasha Sector- Tree Climbing Lions

After breakfast we drive through south stunning savannah grasslands as we head to the southern sector of the park –Ishasha in the southern part of Queen Elizabeth National Park that is host to a large variety of wildlife (this is a fabulous area in which to see the lions draped from the trees and nowhere in Africa do you stand a better chance of seeing this in the large low limbed fig tree of Ishasha ).

We will visit the Uganda kob mating ground which is a defined area specifically used by kobs for challenging, enticing and mating adult rams to defend a circle territory (30meters diameter), and depending on the season the mating ground can have 20 and more of these small.

DAY 9: Gorilla Tracking In Bwindi Impenetrable National Park

You will have an early breakfast and be driven to the Park Headquarters for a briefing at 7:30 am about the rules of Mountain Gorilla tracking.

After the briefing, you will set off for the Mountain Gorilla hunt in the thick jungle. The jungle is very lively with rich forest sounds. The trek ranges between 2 – 8 hours and you have one hour to stay with the Mountain Gorillas once sited.

In the afternoon you can opt for a community walk among the Batwa people who used to live in the Bwindi forest before it was gazetted as a National Park and learn about their life and culture as a forest people.

A good physical condition is recommended. For conservation purposes, time spent with gorillas is limited to one hour. A ranger will brief you on how to behave with the gorillas. Dinner and overnight will be at your lodge of booking.

DAY 11: Transfer to Lake Bunyonyi

After having breakfast, we shall take a scenic drive to Lake Bunyonyi taking you through the beautiful terrain of the rolling hills with terraced landscape.

A short drive to the beautiful lake Bunyonyi where we can relax and enjoy some reflection time with its freshwater, bilharzia-free, and beautiful landscapes.

Lake Bunyonyi is a small paradise for travelers. Dinner and overnight will be at your lodge of booking.

DAY 12: Canoe Trekking On Lake Bunyonyi –Uganda

After breakfast, set out for a 5- hour canoe trek as well as bird watching on the beautiful Lake Bunyonyi traversing to the Gorgeous Kyabahinga Peninsula.

Here you will be gladly welcomed with songs plus dances by the resident school children. You will enjoy with the locals at least a cup of “Obushera”which is a local brew yes will ascend the Kyabahinga slops having a wonderful opportunity to enjoy the birdlife and the verdant terrain.

The view is very break-taking! The 15 Day Uganda Gorilla & Chimp Safari guide will certainly brief you about the history of the area. Among the bird species, you will see the dusky Turtle dove, the handsome francolin, and the alpine chat.

DAY 13: Drive to Lake Mburo National Park

We drive to Mbarara now one of Uganda’s major towns, but formerly the capital of Ankole kingdom for over 400years until disbanded by independence in 1962.

In the days before modern Uganda came into being, the area had a series of fiercely independent tribal states.

From here you continue to Lake Mburo, a small but picturesque national park renowned for its herds of antelope and one of the only two Ugandan parks home to bushel’s zebra.

The park is also especially good for acacia-associated birds.

DAY 14: Safari in Lake Mburo National Park for Zebras, Eland, Hippos, Buffalos, Topi, Birds Etc

Rise early for breakfast before a short drive to the Rwonyo park headquarters. This has often been a good chance of seeing hyenas coming back to the water you will see buffalo zebra, impala, and topi, and with a bit of luck maybe even sitatunga, an antelope rarely seen living in the papyrus swamps.

After your early morning activities, return to the lodge for a late breakfast on the wooden decking overlooking the water hole. Before lunch, you relax at the pool the bar area or enjoy the privacy of your room.

In the afternoon you can go on a game drive to Kazuma look-out point with a stunning view of 9 of the lakes surrounding this park. On your way, you will see most of the animal species occurring in Lake Mburo national park.

The walk onto Kazuma look-out point is steep but short and extremely rewording and should not be missed when visiting this park.

DAY 15: Return to Entebbe

Morning at leisure before checking out of the lodge heading east from lake Mburo, we bid farewell to the park’s friendly staff as we depart for Kampala.

We drive through a magnificent hilly country and lush cultivation on an approximately four-hour journey en route we will stop at the equator for photographs and polar-water experiments than a local community popular for making local drums (Mpambire village) gardens crafts shops and fruit markets. We will be in Entebbe in the evening before your flight back home. This marks the end of this 15 Day Uganda Gorilla & Chimp Safari.
