Rwanda Grand Adventure Safari – 10 Day Safari

The 10 Day Rwanda Grand Adventure safari explores the best of Rwanda Safari sites in 10 days. Your adventure sites will include Akagera National Park for a savanna wildlife safari drive, Nyungwe Forest National Park to encounter our close cousins the chimpanzees, and Butare and Nyanza to experience the Rwanda historical culture, Kibuye, Ruhengeri, and later the peak of the safari, gorilla trekking in Volcanoes National Park. You won’t leave Rwanda without seeing the historical Kigali Genocide memorial to complete this adventure.

 

Detailed Itinerary

Day 1: Arrival in Kigali

You will be met at Kigali International Airport by your safari guide/driver who will transfer you to the Hotel booked for you in Kigali. The guide will brief you about the safari arrangements and leave you to rest.

Day 2: Transfer to Akagera National Park

You will set off after breakfast and drive to Akagera National Park arriving in the early afternoon. You will have lunch and later go for a boat launch on the beautiful Lake Ihema to see Hippos, giant crocodiles, and a profusion of water birds like the African fish eagle, papyrus Gonolek, and the shoebill stork. You will have dinner and overnight at the lodge booked for you.

Day 3: Game drive in Akagera and travel to Kigali

You will have an early breakfast and set off for a game drive to catch up with the early risers plus large predators including lions and hyenas plus bushbuck, zebra, Elephants, Giraffes, and Buffaloes, cape elands, impalas, oribi, and antelopes. You will return for lunch at the Lodge and then in the afternoon drive back to Kigali. Dinner and overnight will be at the Hotel booked for you.

Day 4: Travel to Nyungwe Forest National Park

You will after breakfast travel to Nyungwe Forest National Park with stopovers at a number of historical and cultural sites within Butare and Nyanza. These will include the National Museum and the Old King’s Palace for interesting cultural exposure. You will have lunch in the town of Butare and proceed to Nyanza arriving in the evening. Dinner and overnight at the lodge are booked for you.

Day 5: Chimpanzee trek in Nyungwe

You will have an early breakfast and report at the Nyungwe Park headquarters for a briefing by the park rangers on the chimp trekking rules. You will after the briefing start the trek in search of the chimps in the verdant rain forest. During the trek, you will have the chance to see other primates such as the Rwenzori colobus, Silver monkey, Chimpanzees, the Grey-cheeked Mangabey, L’hoests monkey, and the Owl faced monkey. You will return to the lodge and rest till dinner time and overnight.

Day 6: Transfer to Kibuye

This morning you travel to Kibuye town on the Eastern Shores of the beautiful Lake Kivu where you will have lunch and later in the afternoon have a canoe ride to discover the Island of ‘Napoleon’s Hat’ and continue with the same boat to Gisenyi town to enjoy the breathtaking views of Congo’s Nyiragongo Volcano. You will have dinner and overnight at the hotel reserved for you in Gisenyi.

Day 7: Transfer to Ruhengeri

Today you travel to Ruhengeri town near the Volcanoes National Park. You will have a tour of this town and also visit the vibrant local markets before retiring to your lodge for dinner and overnight

Day 8: Gorilla tracking in Volcanoes National Park

You will have an early breakfast and move to the Park headquarters where you will receive a briefing on the rules of gorilla trekking and be allocated the gorilla group you will be trekking. You will after the briefing be led by the ranger guides into the forest to search for the gorillas in the Volcano Virunga Hills and the verdant valley. Once traced you will spend one hour observing the gorillas in their natural setting.  You will return to your lodge for lunch and later visit the twin lakes of Ruhondo and Burera in the evening for a cultural experience after which you will return to your lodge for dinner and overnight.

Day 9: Cultural tour and transfer back to Kigali

Today you visit various Rwanda communities to interact with the local people in their family settings to learn about their daily routine activities and participate in some of them. You will learn how the people prepare their traditional food, how they rear animals, and discover their way of life. You may also visit the women Cooperatives making handicrafts from banana fibers and the street kid project. Later you will drive back to Kigali. Dinner and overnight will be at the Hotel of your booking.

Day 10: Departure

Depending on the time of your departure flight you may have a brief Kigali City excursion to visit the Genocide memorial sites and the colorful markets for souvenirs before being transferred to the Airport for your departure flight
